Develop a treatment in Writer
Import treatment material, correct scene beats, and hand a Fountain draft to Studio.
Bring in source material
Choose Import treatment, then select .pdf, .docx, .txt, .md, or .fountain, or paste at least one paragraph of treatment text. Writer treats every accepted file as source material to structure into beats. A scanned PDF without selectable text may import nothing, and complex Word layout, tables, comments, or tracked changes may not survive extraction.
- Choose Import treatment.
- Select a supported file or paste the treatment.
- Choose Build scene beats for pasted text.
- Compare the imported result with the source before editing.
Edit the screenplay structure
Use the scene cards to edit sluglines and scene bodies, reorder scenes, remove a scene, or add + Scene. The format toolbar applies screenplay block styles and inline emphasis; the outline can show Scenes or Pages. Search moves between matching scene cards. Character chips are suggestions from the text, not a cast list.
Check every scene heading
Studio recognizes scene structure from screenplay headings. When a Writer heading is left in plain prose, Writer now converts it to an INT./EXT. style slugline when the field changes, preventing the scene from being folded into the previous one. Review the inferred location and DAY or NIGHT value anyway; the conversion is a text heuristic.
Copy or export Fountain
The preview shows the Fountain screenplay Writer will hand off. Choose Copy for the clipboard or Export to download a .fountain file named from the production title. Open it in a screenwriting application or text editor and confirm title page, scene headings, dialogue, and scene order.
Send the draft to Studio
Send to Studio replaces the Studio screenplay with the current Fountain draft and opens Studio. Existing Studio clips and breakdown records are not automatically rebuilt, so choose Re-parse timeline before relying on scene, cast, location, or clip counts. Use the Studio importer for a finished Final Draft or PDF screenplay; Writer’s import is designed for treatment development.
